The idea for the Denkfest evolved during a retreat of the Swiss Freethinkers. The goal was to get scientists on stage, so they could present their work to a wide audience and to allow for a fruitful exchange.

The first Denkfest took place in September 2011 and hosted 40 performers, speakers and panelists during four days and attracted some 420 attendees from 15 countries. Speakers and attendees agreed that the Denkfest had been a highly fruitful and stimulating event.

The positive experience motivated the Freethinkers to make the Denkfest a regular event. Due to the immense effort it takes to run a four-day event, the Denkfest however only takes place every three years.

Denkfest is one of the most stimulating conferences I’ve attended. If I didn’t live so far away, I’d be there for sure! If you don’t have that excuse — attend!
